This volume is a minutes book for the Committee of Citizens and Taxpayers for the Financial Reform of the City and County of New York, also known as the Committee of Seventy (September 23, 1871-October 21, 1873). The committee was formed in oposition to Tammany Hall's corrupt management of New York City, and was instrumental in the downfall of William "Boss" Tweed. The volume contains drafts of resolutions, letters from state officials to the committee, and William F. Havemeyer's acceptance statement of reelection as Chairman of the Committee
